Boys and Girls State Candidates are Needed!
Posted on 03/12/2018

Good evening,

I am currently in search of Boys and Girls State candidates. These students need to be finishing their Junior year. Nominally, I would like to DOUBLE the attendance. The American Legion Post 90 would love to have your son or daughter join us this summer for this amazing learning opportunity and potential ‘life-changing’ event!  Participants pay $25 for a week at Eastern New Mexico University and receive 3 college credits transferrable to any college upon registration. There are additional scholarship opportunities for those that attend.

Please see the attached links for:

Couple of extra things. If he/she can identify a friend to bring with him and share the experience – it makes it all the better!  I will be attending as a counselor and so will be happy to drive them out and back with me if you’d like. There will be an upcoming banquet for last year’s participants on April 14th as an introduction to this year’s potential participants. Please let me know if you have any questions about anything. Please let me know ASAP if you’d like to attend the banquet as space will be limited.

Past successful participants in Boys State include: Neil Armstrong, Tom Brokaw, Bruce Springstein, Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Jordan, and even President Bill Clinton to name a few. Being a participant, creates a strong resume and a membership to an elite alumni of excellence.

Please pass along to any parent that has a High School Junior – we want to provide the opportunity to as many kids as possible. Last year, only 88 young men and 77 young ladies participated in this opportunity. That was 165 out of over 23,000 registered Juniors – that’s only  .07 of 1 percent of the eligible student body got to participate. So please; pass it along!  Thanks!
